POSITION PURPOSE
Guided by Visit Indy’s Destination Vision Plan, the Destination Development Specialist supports the long-term enhancement of Indianapolis as a great place to live, work, and visit. This role assists with the research, engagement, coordination, and execution of strategic initiatives that improve the tourism product and overall visitor experience. The Specialist contributes to team efforts that inform planning, promote awareness, and encourage implementation of development projects aligned with the Destination Vision Plan.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Support the enhancement and development of tourism-related products and associated visitor engagement initiatives.
- Contribute to data collection, research, and the maintenance of tourism-related indicators.
- Assist in the management and updates of external-facing websites, social media accounts, and awareness-building and promotional marketing campaigns for Destination Vision Plan initiatives. This includes graphic design, desktop publishing, photo/video asset management, and both short- and long-form writing.
- Maintain situational awareness of partners, news, developments, and global best practices or innovations related to Destination Vision Plan initiatives.
- Help track and communicate updates on local and regional developments relevant to tourism.
- Maintain and update internal databases, dashboards, and project tracking tools.
- Support community and partner-engagement activities that may occasionally include evening and weekend activities.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Attend and actively contribute to Destination Development team meetings.
- Provide administrative support for meetings and projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in the field of urban planning, tourism, public administration, communications, or related fields.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience (inclusive of internships or apprenticeships), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Excellent written, deliberative, and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience with research and analysis projects.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite. Awareness of ArcGIS and data tools like DOMO is a plus.
- Comfortable working with data and interpreting trends.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
