Since 1923, Visit Indy has proudly served as the city’s official sales and marketing organization, a non-profit charged with driving tourism to Indy. New tourism developments coming online timed with the city celebrating its Bicentennial makes working at Visit Indy an exciting opportunity.  That's why we are searching for an organized, self-motivated, positive, proactive individual to join the team as a Destination Promotions Manager.
 

Position Purpose 
In support of driving tourism, The Destination Promotions Manager will conduct strategic communications and target marketing towards decision makers in the meeting industry, positioning Indy as an appealing city to host conventions, meetings, and major sporting events. Join a team of 14 PR/marketing professionals who promote Indy to the world. All Visit Indy team members reflect the organization’s “3 Ps” culture – productive, positive and progressive.

           Essential Functions 
  • Develop and implement a 12-month strategic communications plan using Visit Indy’s shared, owned, earned, paid, interactive, and film media channels to enhance the destination’s appeal in the eyes of meeting decision makers and C-Suite executives:
    • Develop timely email messaging to reach meeting decision makers. 
    • Write advertorials and native advertising messages about Indy as a vibrant city. 
    • Based on brand research feedback, create multimedia landing pages on VisitIndy.com/Meet, showcasing Indy’s art, culture, food, and music scene.
    • Work with Visit Indy’s video production manager to create vignettes about Indy’s convention package and the city’s cultural, art, and food scene for business-to-business marketing. 
    • Integrate existing national media stories about Indy (e.g. coverage in the New York Times, USA Today) into Visit Indy’s overall marketing to position the destination as an appealing city to host a meeting.  
    • Execute Visit Indy’s “12 Touch” marketing program, developing creative messages to be sent via email or via direct mail to 250 A-List meeting decision makers each month to turn their attention towards booking Indy as a host city.
    • Develop key messages for Visit Indy’s sales team to use in selling and “storytelling” about Indy as a vibrant city. 
    • Write timely blogs about Indy as an appealing destination.
  • When prospective conventions tour the city, present Visit Indy’s marketing capabilities alongside the sales team by public speaking.
  • Develop and provide timely destination content to the city’s top annual conventions in support of driving attendance (Gen Con, NFL Combine, Indiana Black Expo, etc.).
  • Continually enhance Visit Indy’s bid presentations (used to pitch major events and conventions) by uncovering new tourism offerings and incorporate these into multimedia bid presentations.
  • Work with the Governor’s Office and Mayor’s Office to script and secure appearances and letters of support for Visit Indy’s bids to host major events. 
  • Work with Visit Indy’s Destination Development Team to help communicate key projects as part of the Tourism Master Vision (e.g. White River Masterplan).
        Other Functions 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
  •  Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, and/or marketing preferred. 
  •  Minimum of three (3) years of experience in communication and/or marketing preferred.
  • Experience in destination marketing and a firm understanding of Indy is highly desirable.
  • Experience in writing, conducting strategic communications, and public speaking desirable.

  • This position requires emotional stability in order to deal with a variety of stakeholders in a professional manner; it also requires the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information related to candidates, employees, and the company’s business.
