Position Purpose 

The Director/Sr. Director of Sales leads their respective sales teams in meeting and exceeding all goals set by SVP of Sales and CEO/President. Daily sales leadership, coaching, business review and mentoring will be expected along with support of established sales processes such as “Road to 100” and “The 4 disciplines of Execution”, and any other sales standards that are in place. The overarching goal is to drive meetings, convention and tour group business to Indianapolis. This includes establishing business contacts, cultivating and maintaining client relationships, and rebooking group business and new future events. The Director/Sr. Director ensures all team members reflect the organization’s “3 Ps” culture – productive, positive and progressive.   

Key Responsibilities 
         
  Essential Functions

      Strategic 
  • Strategic Thinker with ability to target need dates and any possible 
  • Oversees, directs, develops, and evaluates convention sales processes. Ensures alignment with the company’s strategic business goals and objectives; adjusts as necessary.
  • In conjunction with SVP of Sales, develops goals and objectives; evaluates and recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve when necessary.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to review, assess, and provide input on organizational directives, headcount/staff levels, succession planning, etc.
  • Ability to lead the Convention Sales team while working towards overall departmental vision that supports the mission of the organization. 

      Supervisory Functions  
  • Lead, coach and mentor sales personnel in all business duties such as solicitation, customer office appointments, city and hotel sites inspections, client entertainment and engaging prospective customers with stakeholders and city leadership. 
  • Lead respective sales teams in meeting and exceeding all goals.
  • Leads, guides, directs, evaluates and prepare annual reviews for the convention sales team; provides feedback on individual and team performance, creates an open-door environment, and builds credibility with team.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information related to candidates, employees, and the company’s business.
  • Ability to make decisions and demonstrate sound judgment; Ability to utilize persuasiveness effectively 

       Convention Sales 
  • Oversee and evaluate ROI for all shows and sales engagement by their respective sales teams
  • Responsible for select sales market that includes major annual customers and potential major bids
  • Coach large meeting managers on DPM process, including development of business cases for rental discounts
  • Establish and maintain relationship with convention services leadership to ensure smooth transition of groups, monitoring of citywide groups and report outs to select stakeholders 
  • Establish and maintain relationship with convention center leadership to proactively re-solicit citywide groups prior to, during and after their respective meetings in the city
  • Establish and maintain relationship with marketing team to enhance perception of the brand
  • Maintain Interaction with key stakeholders in the community

            
  Other Functions

  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Maintain and monitor personal budget and budget of the convention sales team; ability to generate and work within budgets for all sales related functions of their respective sales teams
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • Minimum of five years in related industry

  • Ability to lead, take initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to objectively coach employees through complex and emotional issues.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively solve problems, using judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to focus on details, handle multiple tasks, and remain highly organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of managers, employees, candidates, vendors, and the general public, both on a one-on-one basis and in groups.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, policies, and procedures, and other business-related communications.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to think logically with strong business sense in order to troubleshoot and make recommendations for problems as identified.
  • Ability to appropriately address sensitive issues staying within the “3 Ps” cultural values.
  • Ability to be flexible and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Make good business decisions
